About Me

The Yarnista

My name is Sharon. I didn't grow up wanting to be a Yarnista. At age 10, I wanted to be a marine mammalogist specializing in dolphin and whale communication and behavior. At 14, a nurse. At 17, a doctor. At 20, a high school teacher.

While I was a high school teacher, I got married, moved to California, moved to Maryland, had three babies, and started Three Irish Girls in a pot on my kitchen stove.

Yarn and dye began to cover all the surfaces in my kitchen.  When my family got tired of eating sandwiches and take out food, I called an electrician to put a special outlet in the basement so I could hook up a stove and relocate my dye pots.

When I realized that I was spending all my time in the basement, I decided to hire some help and moved to a commercial studio space near my home in the suburbs of Washington, DC.

A few years and a few hundred thousand skeins of yarn later, all of my babies, including Three Irish Girls, moved back to my hometown to be closer to family. We now occupy a beautiful 3,000 square foot studio near the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. I left my high school teaching job in January 2010 and am now a full time Yarnista.

And that's exactly what I want to be.
